The Square was filled with the Sound of Music! The lunchtime concerts are back! I am excited, I love local muso's sharing their talents at the markets. We are open Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun next week so come down for a shop, a brownie, a papusa, an organic coffee and some beautiful music. We have some fabulous new stalls so buy local this Christmas.

Market's are back!

Wow what a huge first day! Even after 7 yrs...I have been thinking it was 6 but someone told me it was our 7th, there was plenty of surprises. After trouble shooting with different council departments the market found its old groove and old friends dropped in and we met some new ones. We had a great turn out for Club Fairy. Fairy Sandie rang me the night before and sounded terrible, I had an awful vision of myself having to pull on some wings and a fairy dress. Thankfully she was feeling a lot better in the morning and all the little kids that came to say hello brought out her magic sparkle. Hoola hoops and Fairy Yoga, what more could you want?

Stitchville was fantastic! Jasmin Jones taught us the crochet basics and we laughed, and concentrated and actually made some progress. Mary Tarrant the knitted sock Queen came down and we drew in many inquisitive souls. We met an avid knitted who was visiting Freo after moving to Texas 26 yrs ago. She told us amazing stories of her creations that are auctioned for charity and waiting lists of people wanting her work. She is going to send some photos so hopefully I can share them.
The Village Cafe had homemade scones and organic homemade mullberry jam and lemon butter! Unfortunately Christiane is away for the next couple of weeks so we will have to wait for her return for more culinary treats. We have Lady Latte joining us with her delicious coffee in Christiane's absence.
Next week we are open both Wednesday the 12 October and Thursday the 13 October. Its the school holidays and we have the Endeavour arriving on Wednesday. I am already looking forward to it!

Hmmm how amazing would our fig trees look with a bit of colour, craft, and creativity! This pic inspired me to make a poster, my first! I think its ok for a beginner! Thanks to everyone who wrote in supporting Stitchville. Its very exciting, a little nerve racking but mostly...I can't wait! I am having all those crazy dreams of being the only one down there on Thursday but I know its just part of the process of letting go...and the art of allowing and learning to trust!

Other stall holder opportunities!

Besides our beloved Freo Village Market we provide food stalls, and market stalls to quite a few of the best music festivals in our great state. If you want to be part of the action and see some amazing music head to our website (www.redtentevents.com.au) and fill out the forms in the applications section. We love healthy, ethnic, sustainable foodies that present well and aim to impress.
Foodies have to work incredibly long hours at festivals and still keep smiling...like me, but its lots of fun and can be very rewarding. So if you wonder why you see Anna the lovely papusa lady at the Village Market and then again at Blues and Roots its because we love her simple, delicious, healthy papusa's from Sth America. Why would you put a hot dog stand in when we have Anna in our community! Anna lost her home last year to a fire and the only thing that survived was her papusa BBQ in the shed! She is an amazing woman who loves to laugh and loves community. Anna and her papusa's will be back at the Freo Village Market, every Thursday from the 6th October, along with all the other fabulous foodies and stall holders we love! I know my daughter will be very happy, papusa's after school is one of her favourite things.

Fairy Sandie and Stitch Ville

We have lots on the boil already. We love Fairy Sandie and Club Fairy so much that we have decided to add her to our Thursdays! So starting Oct 6 she will be running Club Fairy for all the wee ones at the Freo Village Market! How exciting! Come down from 10am and let your little fairies and pirates create, explore and enjoy activities with Fairy Sandie under the big Fig Tree while you enjoy a cuppa or lunch from one of our fantastic foodies. Fairy Sandie will be in the market from 10am to 4pm every Thursday! We pride ourselves in making the Freo Village Market a creative, friendly, community space that has inspiration for everyone. Including the smallest members of our town!
To find out more about Fairy Sandie visit her website www.ladybirdentertainment.com.au

Stitch Ville!
The resurgence of handmade crafts has been incredibly exciting. Fremantle is awash with skilled women that share their crafts on many levels. They not only share their craft but they are sharing themselves and their stories, their connections, and their community with each other. I'd much rather get to know an older lady, new lady, refugee, migrant, young girl in my town by meeting her through one of her passions. Straight away there is a whole lot more to know and enjoy. Stitching, crocheting, knitting, weaving, darning and embroidery are all ways in which women can create something beautiful, make something useful, develop skills, create something new from something old and add magic. As a gorgeous woman commented to me recently “this is prayer!"

So I have decided to create a special space in the Village Market this year, a special space called Stitch Ville. Every Thursday there will be a space under the fig trees in Kings Square dedicated to the Stitch Ville Circle. We welcome women to join us - bring down whatever they are working on, or come and share and learn.
Imagine what we could do. As a group we could make dolls, blankets and jumpers for charity, or knit bomb some areas around our town. As individuals it will be wonderful to see and share what you are making for your own family and friends (or for your wonderful self)! I am dreaming about a very special International Women’s Day in March next year - I am sure our Stitch Ville Circle will be full of interesting women with some interesting ideas and amazing skills.
This is my dream, but without you I can’t make it a reality. So let me know if you’re in! Bring your own circle of sewers, your embroidery group or your stitch and bitch gang to the Village Market this season and be part of a community that is creative, fun and meaningful. Come for one session or come every week, come and share my passion for community, women and beautiful hand made things!
Please contact me with your ideas, support, people I should contact, if you would like to teach your craft, or bring along your group. kylie@redtentevents.com.au

Welcome!

Greetings!  Welcome to my new blog!  Blogs, Facebook, Twitter, texting...to own a small business requires so many elements and Blogging is a new one for me!  It's been a bit of a mind bender working it all out, but its the journey and not the destination, so here I am!  I wanted to create a blog that allows all of you to find out what we are up to each week at the Freo Village Market.  The market has been around for over 6 years.  It was a dream I had that luckily the Mayor of Fremantle liked and with much support from many people grew into a much loved weekly event.  We are a seasonal market and the new season commences on the 6 October 2011. We already have all our favourite stallholders signed up for the new season and look forward to going through all the new apps.  We have a few new surprises so stay tuned and enjoy some of the pics from previous seasons.
